Girls will be boys in today's fashion and modeling landscape, where gender-bending androgyny has made a strong comeback. Case in point: Tom Ford's latest video hawking his Lips & Boys lipstick line features androgynous model Erika Linder as one of the boys.
Erika is not new to the modeling scene. We've written about her before, when she starred in this great video for Crocker Jeans where she plays both the male and female lead. And Tom Ford is certainly not new to ladies kissing each other.
But there's a big difference between Ford's previous approach of showing lipstick lesbians and selling your lipstick to actual lesbians.
In fact, if you don't know what she looks like (hint: we made you a screen shot) you probably won't even notice you're watching two hot chicks making out. Linder seems to switch between genders effortlessly, and she can do a great Leonardo DiCaprio impression.
What Linder lets Ford do is have it both ways. Without knowing who she is, there's nothing remarkable about the video. But when you know, or you read queer publications that are quite happy with the casting, you can applaud Ford for gender equality. Of course, everyone should be applauding him simply for choosing the right woman for the job.
