Star Wars Shut Down This Facebook Commenter Who Wants Female Armor to Look More Ladylike

Disney-owned Star Wars seems like such a cuddly, world-embracing brand these days, you'd hardly expect them to drop the occasional AT-AT stomp on a Facebook commenter.

But that's what happened for a guy who questioned why Phasma, a character in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, didn't wear Storm Trooper armor that made her more visibly female.

"Not to be sexist," the commenter wrote, "but it's really hard to tell that's female armor for me."

The official Star Wars account responded back: "It's armor. On a woman. It doesn't have to look feminine."

The exchange has since been deleted, with both sides probably preferring not to see it escalate into a global debate about gender equality. It was, of course, too late, with about 200 comments rolling in and several fans firing back and forth at each other over sexism and body armor design.

For the record, Phasma is played by 6-foot-3-inch Gwendoline Christie, whose armor in Game of Thrones also doesn't look all that feminine:

But at least now we know that Star Wars' social media team doesn't mind calling out the occasional scruffy-looking nerf-herder.
