Apple just announced the new iPad mini, and the parodies are already off and running. Conan O'Brien has one, and it's as impressively pared down as the original commercial. As the iPad plays the left hand part of the "Heart and Soul" piano duet, Andy Richter sings, "Spend your money" with the harmony. Then the iPad mini comes in with the refrain: "You will buy/anything that we put/into the store/no matter how minute the changes are/to the previous model/You're just trying to fill the empty void in your sad life." Ouch. That's the thing with simple, effective commercials. They invite simple, effective parodies.
