Spray-Paint Cans Bearing the Colors and Logos of Famous Brands Are Oddly Compelling

Art director Antonio Brasko made a series of branded Montana spray-paint cans bearing the logos and colors of high-roller fashion labels like Chanel and Gucci, as well as ubiquitous sportswear brands like Adidas and Nike (for whom Brasko does some notable design work). Designers roll out projects like this fairly regularly, it seems, and the thought process behind them generally isn't much deeper than "put X's logo on random object Y, sell as profound cultural statement." Brasko's is a little more interesting than that—his spray-paint cans can be seen as a reminder of how often advertisers use elements of street art to lend aesthetic legitimacy to their products, and also how often "high art" uses the semi-guerrilla tactics of low art to try to make itself interesting. Hardly a groundbreaking observation, but "Spray Can Project" would be a solid art-school senior thesis, which is more than can be said for Brasko's contemporaries. More images below.
